This was a period of expansion for GRUMA nationwide. We opened seven new corn flour mills.  The use of corn flour in Mexico began to become a reality.

MASECA began to position itself as a synonym for quality, but also as a staple food in the Mexican diet.

A group of researchers and an aggressive program was created to improve equipment and processes in order to increase profitability of the manufacturing plants, while at the same time the concepts for next-generation technology were being developed and evaluated, which were consolidated during the following decade.
