There is nothing better than going to Russia to personally witness how this country faces its current challenges. The Mexican and Anglo-Saxon press to which we have access, do not always provide a very objective view of what happens in this country that is still the largest in the world in land area. It has a very active Mexican embassy. My friend, Ambassador Rubén Beltrán already speaks Russian fluently in less than three years, and that makes a difference. Tourism and PROMEXICO offices have been opened to promote trade, investment and growing travel rates by Russians to the Mexican Caribbean. GRUMA and Nemak are making investments…

100 TOP LEADERS WITH THE BEST REPUTATION. (EL FINANCIERO 8)
Merco believes that there are seven characteristics business leaders must master to determine their reputation, including strategic vision and meeting goals, business vision, international presence, the ability to build great teams, innovation, and business transformation, communication skills, and personal integrity to build on ethical behavior and social responsibility. The first survey of 594 managers of large companies was applied with a 60% weighting methodology similar to company rankings. The survey was followed by interviews with leading Key Opinion Leaders (KOL) and financial journalists who contribute 25% and 15%, respectively. The General Ranking includes: Juan Antonio González Moreno of Gruma ranked 67 in 2015 with 4,005 points.
WHO'S WHO IN THE SECTOR RANKING. (EL FINANCIERO 6)
In addition to the overall ranking, Merco also ranks corporate reputation by industry, which works as a thermometer between companies in the same line of business. The largest category, food and beverages, is known for the competition existing between domestic and foreign companies, and admired by specialists and consumers alike, because of their top rankings. On the other hand, we see a total lack of national benchmarks in the automotive and pharmaceutical industries. The banking and conglomerate industries were found to be the most static, without newcomers or companies leaving the industries. Gruma moved up three spots in the General Food and Beverage Ranking this year to 12th, from the 15th position it held in 2014

The market capitalization of these three companies is 20% higher than Mexico's GDP, standing at US $1.5 billion, while their brand values are ranked among the top five in the world, according to specialized rankings. Gruma moved up 16 positions in the general Corporate Reputation Rankings from 51st in 2014 to the 35th position in 2015 with 5,971 points.

If we were timid when talking about the 500 largest companies in Latin America in the fall of 2014, today we can talk straight about the winter. 65% or 334 companies in this universe of large firms in Latin America saw their sales fall, and only the remaining 35% increased or kept the sales status quo. We invite you to read the recipe used by the companies that managed to profit, despite the adverse global economic scenario, in the analysis carried out by our editor Carlos Tromben, based on data compiled by the AméricaEconomía Intelligence team led by Andrés Almeida and Catherine Lacourt. Ecopetrol, JBS, Cencosud, and Gruma embody the reality of the winning and losing companies. Some are battered and others are favored by a mix of low commodity prices, devalued local currencies and rising interest rates, apply different strategies to weather or benefit from this storm. The FAO food price index has been falling since April 2014, to stand at the same level as in 2010. Meat, dairy, cereals, oils and sugar are all in the same situation. However, the drought affecting large global production centers such as Brazil and the U.S., combined with strong demand, anticipate a turnaround. The food industry is increasingly affected by strong concerns about sodium, sugar and trans fat content. An Euromonitor report stresses the awareness by governments and consumers in Latin America, where obesity and related problems are increasingly on the rise. Taxes and increasingly demanding regulations are also becoming a headache for large companies. Another controversial element continues to be the patenting of seeds and genetically modified crops. In the 2014 ranking,Gruma ranked eighth on the list of“Sales for companies in2014 Sales,”with US $3.387 billion.

CUBA, THE NEW TROPICAL CHINA? (WORLD EXECUTIVE 84-90)
Mexican businessmen have invested just over US $22 billion dollars in the Island over the last two years. However, the amount allocated to Cuba is so insignificant that it doesn't even show up on the world map. According to trends reported by the Central Bank of Mexico, Mexican foreign direct investment abroad in 2015 could stand at US $12 billion. The Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Economy, José Antonio Meade and Ildefonso Guajardo, respectively, have said that Cuba can be a great alternative for Mexican businessmen as the island needs at least US $2.5 billion in FDI per year. Other Mexican agribusiness companies that could venture into that market include Gruma that could expand its presence, Grupo Alfa through Sigma Alimentos, as well as a dozen other companies that are engaged in the sugar business
