Hence, the focus is on driving the consumption of local, high-quality products and promoting good nutrition. Faced with the global challenge of deteriorating food security after the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war threatening millions with a lack of food across the globe,Gruma and the International Corn and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) promote food security in the state of Campeche.Grumaand the CIMMYT contribute their grain of flour [play on words] by sharing the knowledge and results obtained from the Campeche 500 Program for the sustainable production of white corn in that state in southeast Mexico, which can be replicated worldwide for local production of the grain. After four years of intense work and research in the state of Tamaulipas, where farmers harvested 3,500 tons of white corn suitable for human consumption grown on 500 hectares of farmland, the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER), the National Institute of Forestry, Agricultural and Livestock Research (INIFAP), seed companies and farmers in Campeche joined Gruma and the CIMMYT in the Campeche 500 Program to plant white corn on 500 hectares of farmland, suitable for humans, which they are about to harvest.

GRUMA REDUCES ITS GAS CONSUMPTION TO BENEFIT THE ENVIRONMENT. (ENFOQUE NOTICIAS ONLINE) In alignment with its commitment to the environment and sustainability, Gruma,a leading Mexican company producing nixtamalized corn flour, tortillas and wraps, carried out actions to reduce its climate footprint in 2021. The company also reduced its LP gas consumption from 0.86 GJx106 in 2020 to 0.83 GJx106 in 2021 because Gruma believes that change is a phenomenon this food company must respond to in an effective and consistent manner. In this sense, the company scheduled the installation of seven heat recovery units in its operations in 2022, representing a USD 3.4 billion investment.
