Grupo Gruma and INIFAP enter into an agreement that promises to help farmers in Tlaxcala

(Gruma) and the INIFAP (National Institute for Agricultural Forestry Research) entered into an agreement promising direct help to farmers in Tlaxcala. The agreement seeks to ensure that farmers in Tlaxcala can sell their crops directly to the company. The S&P/BMV (Mexican Stock Exchange) CPI began the month on a positive note, advancing 0.91% to 51,887.47 units. In Mexico, Femsa's report became relevant as the company reported an 18.6% growth in revenues and a 16% growth in EBITDA during the first quarter. The Logistics and Distribution division was included in this period, with a 48.3% rise in revenues and 39.0% growth in EBITDA. The business is located primarily in the United States. However, Femsa's net income fell 6.6%, which caused its shares to close with a 1.50% loss. The trading session was also positive in the United States, where the Dow Jones, S&P 500 and Nasdaq were up 0.26%, 0.57% and 1.63%, respectively.

The federal Government presented, supported by the country’s entrepreneurs, released the Package Against Inflation and Famine (Pacic) seeking to contain the increase in food prices. During the next six months, consumers will have a guaranteed price on 24 basic basket products, including rice grains; canned tuna; brown sugar; beef steak; onions; jalapeño peppers; beans in grain; white eggs; body soap; milk; lemons; tomato; box bread; toilet paper; whole chicken, and corn tortillas. "It is not about price controls because we believe that the supply and the reduction of costs stimulate competitiveness," said the Secretary of Finance, Rogelio Ramírez de la O. The Mexican Government plans to reduce inflation by up to a third and contain prices in 24 products of the consumer basket costs with production, distribution and foreign trade strategies and the will of companies such as Walmart, Bimbo, Lala, Bachoco, Maseca,and Kimberly Clark. According to Secretary of Finance Rogelio Ramírez de la O, the Government will support production with fixed gasoline prices, and it will increase the production of grains through its Sowing Life and Production for Well-being programs while also increasing the delivery of fertilizers from four to nine states, thus expecting to generate two million more tons of grains.

Secretary for the Economy, Tatiana Clouthier, and the British Minister for International Trade, Anne-Marie Trevelyan, began negotiations yesterday in London on a new Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between the United Kingdom and Mexico. This is the first post-Brexit treaty of its kind between the UK and a Latin American country. José Abugaber, the president of the Industrial Chambers Confederation (CONCAMIN), who is traveling with Clouthier, said that the partnerships between the companies of both nations will serve to create new jobs. "We trust that these strategic alliances between English and Mexican companies can be reflected in large investments and expansion into new business models," he said. The Mexican companies with operations in the United Kingdom are Cemex, Fresnillo, Gruma, Orbia, Monex, and Kidzania. The United Kingdom represents Mexico’s 16th trade partner worldwide and its eighth investor.
