GRUMA CONTINUES TO MODERNIZE TO FAVOR THE ENVIRONMENT. (ENFOQUE NOTICIAS ONLINE) (SDP NOTICIAS.COM ONLINE) (ESTO ES HOY ONLINE) Mexican company Gruma,which produces nixtamalized corn flour, tortillas, and wraps, maintains its ecological modernization efforts to benefit the environment. In this sense, last year, the company implemented several actions to reduce its energy consumption and substance emissions by changing equipment that allowed it to reduce its consumption of 214.6 million cubic feet of natural gas per year, thus preventing the release of 11,703 tCO2eq. The company also scheduled the installation of seven heat recovery units in its operations for 2022, with a USD 3.4 billion investment. On the other hand, to increase the transparency of its operations and environmental impact, in 2021, Gruma sent its first response to the CDP or Carbon Disclosure Project’s Climate Change questionnaire.

GRUMA PROMOTES CORN CROPS IN TAMAULIPAS. (EL NORTE 11) (EXCÉLSIOR 1) (EXCÉLSIOR 7) (LA RAZÓN 17) (24 HORAS 15) (CONTRARÉPLICA 11) (MILENIO DIARIO 19) (EL HERALDO DE MÉXICO 19) Grupo Maseca (Gruma) did not buy corn in Tamaulipas in the past because it did not meet its quality processes; however, it can now do so after farmers implemented a program involving four years of research and development. This was reported by the company, which said that during the program, it provided support, including funds for farmers in Tamaulipas who planted 500 hectares of white corn during the Fall-Winter 2021-2022 cycle. The company described this as an agroecological transition plan involving the Secretariat of Agriculture and Rural Development through the Undersecretary of Food Self-Sufficiency, the National Institute of Forestry, Agriculture, and Livestock Research, and the International Corn and Wheat Improvement Center. Farmers harvested 3,500 tons from the 500 hectares, of which Maseca purchased 1,400.

After four years of research and the development of innovative formulas for agroecological practices, and with financial help from Grupo Maseca (Gruma) led by Juan Antonio González Moreno,farmers in Tamaulipas harvested white corn grown on 500 hectares in the Fall-Winter 2021-2022 cycle, with significant improvements in yields and making the grain suitable for human consumption. SADER, led by Víctor Villalobos Arámbula, and the Center for Food Self-Sufficiency participated in the project that implied an Agroecological Transition Plan. The National Institute of Forestry, Agriculture and Livestock Research, and the International Corn and Wheat Improvement Center also participated in the project along with several seed companies and farmers from the municipalities of Díaz Ordaz, Río Bravo, and Abasolo. The result was a production of 3,500 tons, of which Maseca purchased 1,400 after supervising the crop quality. The next step will include crops grown on 5,000 hectares as part of the “Plan Tamaulipas 5000” project for next year.
MASECA INVESTED USD 1.5 MILLION IN WHITE CORN CROPS IN TAMAULIPAS (NEGOCIOS EN IMAGEN) Rodrigo Pacheco: Today, Tamaulipas announced the results of a program with the participation of several entities involved in regulating corn crops, specifically white corn, including the Secretariat of Rural Development and Grupo Maseca.One short-term objective is to increase white corn production in Tamaulipas by up to 5,000 tons per year as part of a joint project.

AARFS AND MASECA SIGN A LETTER OF INTENT TO PURCHASE. (DEBATE ONLINE (SINALOA)) The Río Fuerte Sur Farmers Association signed an agreement with MASECA to increase the volume of corn grain sales for this Fall-Winter 2022-2023 agricultural cycle, thus raising the bar in terms of the excellence and quality in service of this agricultural body and reiterating its reliability as a market regulator, providing certainty to its production partners. For over 30 years, the Río Fuerte Sur Farmers Association has maintained important business relationships with GRUMA-MASECA, always placing the grains of northern Sinaloa producers in good hands to ensure the sale of their crops. AARFS and GRUMA-MASECA entered into this agreement in the agri-food chain in Mexico as part of the events scheduled to celebrate this Association’s 90th anniversary with the firm objective of continuing to increase and strengthen the commercial relations between these two entities.
