“ANIMAL KINGDOM AND MASECA OPEN A 100% SUSTAINABLE AND EDUCATIONAL FARM”.

  • An ideal space for sustainable agricultural production and animal welfare.

  • It includes food production processes with agroecological and hydroponic techniques and comprehensive waste management to generate compost.

  • It provides training for agricultural producers in the region to adopt more sustainable techniques in their daily activities.

  • The productivity of farmers will be enhanced to improve their crops and their income.

Teotihuacán, State of Mexico, May 2, 2021. As part of the three-year comprehensive sustainable regional development project in Teotihuacán, State of Mexico, Grupo Maseca (Gruma) and the Animal Kingdom Conservation Center opened the Maseca Sustainable Farm, an ideal space for sustainable agricultural production.

The 100% sustainable and educational farm was designed to be an educational and interactive experience for visitors of all ages to discuss the importance of a lifestyle in balance with the environment.

The farm operation, financed by Maseca with MXN 1,500,000 million, includes food production processes with agroecological and hydroponic techniques, comprehensive waste management to generate compost, vermicompost, and biogas. The park also has a solar power plant that generates 100% of its electricity needs.

It is important to mention that the practices, technology, and operational infrastructure of each item of the MASECA Sustainable Farm, as well as the agroecological production of food, use of renewable energies, and comprehensive waste management to produce organic fertilizers, among others, are also focused on training agricultural producers in the region to adopt more sustainable techniques in their daily activities.

The Santiago Tepetitlan community is a beneficiary of this important project through the implementation of an initial plan to enhance its agroecological production and supply, in the medium-term, the vegetable demands of the Animal Kingdom and for corn for human consumption that meets the indispensable requirements established in the Maseca nixtamalized corn flour plant in Teotihuacan.

In this way, the farmers' productivity throughout the region will be enhanced to obtain larger and better harvests and, therefore, higher income from their products.

The Maseca Sustainable Farm is located on 4,800 m2 of property of the Animal Kingdom park, which is equipped with an audiovisual room, a hydroponic food production area, a pollinator garden, a module for laying birds and another for vermicompost, sections with poultry and horses, a veterinary hospital, a rabbit module with its respective interactive area, a Cameroon goat section, and cattle, sheep, and goat warehouses. The entire circuit includes educational museography and guides that will enrich your visit.

This strategic partnership between Grupo Maseca and Reino Animal to promote agricultural production in the region and provide knowledge is a reflection of their social commitment to the community and a contribution to sustainability and the planet.

The event was led by Ithiel Berrum González, Managing Director of Reino Animal, and Hernán Marcos, Assistant Director of Marketing of Grupo Maseca, accompanied by park and Company managers.

*Animal Kingdom is located at: Camino A Belen S/N Oxtotipac, 55908 Otumba, Estado de México
